Overview of the Smartphone Nokia 700: Thinner than Thin

At one time, this unit was one of the first super thin smartphone. In addition, it had the brand new (at that time) OS – Symbian Belle. Among other things, Nokia 700 has an outstanding appearance. This unit was able to demonstrate all the positive qualities of its OS in spite of general  non-perception» of Symbian.

Appearance. Dimensions and Management of Nokia 700

Nokia 700 is quite attractive and decorative device. Its dimensions are 11x5x0.97 cm and the weight – 96 g. The phone combines such color solutions as black / white front panel and red / purple / blue – back panel. The metal parts are also available – edge around the screen, the back part of the body, side buttons and speaker mesh.

The front panel is equipped with a light and proximity sensors and earpiece. Three physical keys are below the screen: 2 Ring and “Menu” button.

Regarding the location of the connectors, a standard headphone / headset mini-jack and 2-mm hole for the charger are on the upper face. On the right side there are the camera launching small buttons, the screen lock and volume rocker buttons.


The back panel is equipped with a camera (+ flash) and a noise-canceling microphone. SIM-card and memory card are under the same cover, next to the battery.


The Screen of Nokia 700

A special feature of this display was its considerable density. Diagonal of 3.2″ and a resolution of 360×640 give a figure of 229 ppi.

Images are not grainy, contrasting, vibrant and saturated. The viewing angles are extremely wide, and the lighting is adjusted either automatically or manually. The display is capable of transmitting up to 16 million hues. AMOLED-display is made by proprietary Nokia «Clear Black» technology.  This improves readability and makes the image darker shades deeper and richer. Capacitive touch screen supports “multi touch” function. It is protected by a glass of Corning Gorilla Company.


The camera of the smartphone is a 5-megapixel module. There is LED-flash, but no autofocus. Maximum resolution for photo is 2592×1944 pixels. One can shoot videos in HD-quality (1280×720). The quality of the photographic material is good, but the lack of autofocus spoils everything.

The Phone Memory

512 MB RAM is available for Nokia700 operation. The ROM volume is 1 GB, flash-memory – 1.6 GB. ГБ. The phone is sold with 2 GB memory card, but the maximum allowable is 32 GB.

Productive Performance. Software

The phone works on 1-core ARM 11 processor, which had not been installed on the Finnish smartphones before. The clock frequency is 1 GHz. The system works smooth and quiet. Terrible mistakes were not observed. Symbian Belle has been installed as the operating system.

Interface of Nokia 700

The user has an access to 6 desktops with a designated widget / link. The menu has a form of a matrix, where the icons are arranged in 3 columns. The list of available applications is large, and their number can be replenished in the OVI store.

Multimedia Capabilities

Nokia700 is equipped with an easy-to-use music player that can play most audio formats.

The phone is equipped with FM-radio, which does not work without the headset.

The video player is capable of playing all popular video formats.


In this review there has been said a few words about a removable battery. Lithium-Ion Battery BP-5Z with a capacity of 1080 mAh is able to operate in standby mode for almost 3 weeks. According to the users’ comments, the phone is running on average 2 to 3 days. Powerful processor consumes the lion’s share of energy. Charging from the mains will take 2 hours.
